Over more than 3800 ha, Mouriès, in the heart of the Vallée des Baux, a typically Provençal village, surrounded by olive trees, vines, almond trees and cypresses, is nestled in the Regional Nature Park of Les Alpilles on the south side, and benefits from over 300 days of sun per year. You cannot help but savour this natural environment that is still intact and the Provençal easy living.
Mouriès is located at the entrance of La Camargue, the massif of Luberon, the beaches of the Mediterranean and at the crossroads of the most prestigious tourist and cultural sites of Provence.
With over 80,000 feet of olive trees, it is the number one olive growing town of France, earning the gold award many times, its wine and its local produce are certified AOC. Goélia advises that you go to one of the olive oil producers of the region.
The town centre, lined with cafe terraces under the centenary plane trees, offers you, every Wednesday morning, a Provençal market.
To discover this wonderful region, head off on a draught horse-drawn carriage; a trip which offers "Attelage des Alpilles" every day in the season. Information on 04 90 59 93 58 (open all year long).
In Le Mas de la Tapi, you will visit an olive grove and " taste" the different produce of the farm (5 people minimum). Information from the tourist office of Mouriès on 04 90 47 56 58.
For golf fans, the Golf de Servanes, in the town of Mouriès, at the foot of the Alpilles, has its 18 hole green (30 tees practice 4 of which are covered, a putting-green, a training bunker, beginners course and a mastery one, a club house and a restaurant). Open every day from 08:00 to 19:30.
To dive straight into the heart of the Alpilles, "La Meynaude " accompanies you for horse rides on the steep tracks which combine the dazzling white of the lime stone rocks, the red and ochre colours of the earth full of bauxite and the scents of thyme and rosemary.
Head off on the discovery of the Château d'Aureille, the Saint-Sixte chapel from the 12th century, the church of Notre Dame de Beauregard, La tour des Opies which stands 450 meres high and the Roman remains of Glanum des Baux. Information - 04 90 47 69 26.
